Media executive and strategic leader Deborah Leavitt has joined the Board of the Foundation for the WA Museum in conjunction with her role on the Board of Trustees of the Western Australian Museum.

Deborah Leavitt is an accomplished media executive and strategic leader with over thirty years of experience in communications, stakeholder management, and organisational transformation. She brings extensive expertise from her previous roles as Manager of ABC Radio National, Director of Media and Communications at the Department of Education and Communications Advisor to the Department of Premier and Cabinet.

Deborah has served as a Board Trustee of the Western Australian Museums since 2019, working with the board to oversee the governance of all WA Museum sites and the delivery of the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

In addition, she holds board positions with Fremantle Press, is a mentor with the Minerva Network and serves on the Women in Media committee and the selection committee for the Fulbright Awards, combining her passion for cultural institutions with proven leadership in complex stakeholder environments and strategic risk management.

Deborah Leavitt explained, “It has been a privilege to serve as a Trustee of the WA Museum and witness the realisation of the WA Museum Boola Bardip, which has truly established itself as a welcoming and immensely stimulating place at the heart of our community. Seeing it burst into life was a moment of great pride. I’m excited to join the Foundation Board to contribute to the extraordinary philanthropic work that helps bring outstanding exhibitions to our State and supports scientific research and knowledge sharing through the generosity of our community - delivering the best possible museum experience.”

Foundation Chair Anna Shave commented, “The Board of Directors of the Foundation for the WA Museum and the Western Australian Museum Board of Trustees work closely together in pursuit of a shared goal - enabling the WA Museum to explore the past, question the present and shape the future. My fellow Board members and I look forward to working with Deborah and the WA Museum to continue supporting key pillars of the Museum’s work. Philanthropic and corporate support for the Foundation allows the WA Museum to continue its research and fieldwork, develop world-class exhibitions like the current Terracotta Warriors exhibition, and expand education and learning programs across the State now and into the future.”
