The Goldfields community is being invited to celebrate local flavours, family traditions and the unique ingredients of the region through the launch of the Goldfields Bush Cooking Competition.
The six-week community competition encourages Goldfield’s residents to submit a favourite recipe featuring Goldfields local plants, seeds or bush food ingredients, along with the story behind the dish.
Whether it's a recipe passed down through generations or a contemporary creation inspired by local produce, the competition celebrates the important role food plays in connecting families, preserving traditions, and bringing communities together.
The initiative marks the expansion of the Bush Food & Medicine Garden at the Museum of the Goldfields and aims to inspire greater appreciation for the region's regional plants while encouraging locals to explore the cultural and culinary heritage of the Goldfields.
Participants are invited to submit a recipe featuring at least one Goldfields regional ingredient, accompanied by a short story explaining its significance. Entries will be judged on creativity, use of local ingredients, storytelling and community connection, with 12 winners each receiving a $500 gift voucher. Winners will be announced on 10 September.
Winner’s recipes will be published and shared on recipe cards available at WA Museum locationsand through digital and social media channels.
The Goldfields Bush Cooking Competition has been made possible through the support of Gold Fields, the Museum of the Goldfields and the Foundation for the WA Museum, with the shared goal of celebrating local heritage, strengthening community connections and showcasing the remarkable local ingredients found across the region.
